I'm just beginning my AD "journey" and appreciate these posts. Some of it is like looking in a mirror, other parts, not so much. My mother had AD, all her brothers had AD, as did their father, too. I have the 3/4 allele for hereditary AD. Having watched my mother go through this for 25 years, the forgetfulness, the shame, the anger, the tears, and the rage all spinning about her life from 70 to 93 when she passed ... not something I want to go through or drag my family through, either.

Thank you again for these posts - You're northern neighbor in Southport, NC.

I'm curious, how did you contact Duke?

Hi Jack. Welcome to my blog. I am glad you are finding the posts helpful as you begin your own journey. With your family history, you had no chance escaping AD.

One of the places Linda and I are considering moving to is Southport. I have always loved visiting Southport. Apartment rentals are much lower than they are in the Triangle region.

My primary care doctor called Duke Neurology and requested an appointment for me. He had to submit my medical records for review. After that review, I was scheduled for an appointment a few months later.

Best of luck.

Yes, Southport is lovely and compared to the Triangle, affordable. Stay well!
