My Alzheimer's Journey
Part 95 - Friday February 27, 2026
Another Friday has arrived. Can you believe that February will be in the history books after tomorrow? Time really does zoom by.
My sweet polar bear, DB, is so excited because today is International Polar Bear Day. Sometimes he gets confused and forgets that he is a domesticated bear not a wild animal. For example, he saw this photo and told me it was his grandmother.
We are celebrating International Polar Bear Day by eating Thrive ice cream tonight.
As is our tradition on Friday’s, I try to enlighten you with a bit of history that happened on this day. In my research, I found a few odd or offbeat things:
on this day in 2018, Barbra Streisand reveled that she had cloned her dog twice
Italy sought suggestions on this day in 1964 to keep the Leaning Tower of Pisa from falling over
February 27, 1990 was the final day of the rum ration in the Royal New Zealand Navy (A daily ration of rum? Not a bad job perk!)
It is going to be 80 degrees Fahrenheit in Curaçao tomorrow. I had an opportunity to spend a few weeks in Curacao about twelve years ago. I was working, but what an incredible place to work. The people were so genuine and the food was fabulous. If anyone wants to make a quick trip to Curacao, you can learn to make authentic Espadrilles tomorrow. If you go, I suggest you eat dinner at the Zanzibar.
Lincoln Nebraska is going to be a tad chilly this weekend, but the annual Winterfest Flea Market, Antique & Junk Festival seems like a bunch of fun of you like to collect stuff.
I hope each one of you have an enjoyable weekend - even if you are just hanging out at home. For the many caregivers, I wish you peace and strength. You have a difficult job that never ends.
Next week, I will write my one hundredth blog post. When I started writing September 14, 2025, I did not think the blog would grow so rapidly. Without your support the impact of the blog would not be possible. I am committed to continue writing for as long as I am able. My focus will always be on helping those who suffer from Alzheimer’s, their caregivers, and the researchers and medical professionals who work tirelessly to take care of both patients and caregivers.
Have an awesome weekend.
