My Alzheimer's Journey
Part 37 - Infusion #3, 33 Remaining
I am writing this post at Duke Cancer Center.
The day started with an early morning chat with Big Bit. As my Emotional Support Animal, she gave me words of encouragement. She also told me it was time for breakfast.
We arrived at Duke at 2:00. The valet parking line moved quickly. The stately trees on the Duke campus are beautiful fall colors. It is very cold today. We have plenty of time to make it to Clinic 2A (the Duke Specialized Infusion Center). Linda’s neuropathy has flared up, so we get a wheelchair since she can’t walk.
We checked in at about 2:20 - ten minutes prior to my appointment. For the first time, we were in the waiting room for almost an hour. Someone said several nurses were late returning from lunch. I wonder what they ate that took so long.
After going into the infusion center, the nurse took my vital signs, and she ordered the Lecanemab from the pharmacy. Tylenol and Benadryl were given to me prior to the infusion. My care team hopes these drugs will prevent the side effects.
At 3:54, the infusion began. The infusion pump beeped loudly at 4:55. The nurse removed the empty Lecanemab bag and checked my vitals. Everything looked good.
It is now 5:37, and we have another hour and twenty-three minutes to wait before we can go home.
The cats will be angry that dinner is late. I hope they don’t shit in our shoes.
