My Alzheimer's Journey
June 6, 2026 Random Thoughts From My Alzheimer's Brain

On this day in 1882, the electric iron was patented by New York inventor Henry W. Seely. It weighed almost 15 pounds and was very slow to heat up. The iron is headed down the road to obsoletion - at least in most modern households. I suspect there are many young adults that have never used an iron. Out of curiosity, I looked at Walmart.com to see what a 2026 iron cost. You can buy a fancy Rowenta Performance Steam Iron for $49.97. It weighs 3.85 pounds.
Continuing to feed my curiosity, I searched for the latest household gadget in 2026. The winner is the Roborock Saros Z70 robotic vacuum. This is an amazing gadget. You can even have a conversation with it. Me: “yo, you missed some cat hair over there.” Saros: “you don’t pay me enough to be perfect.” Me: “excuse me, your list price is $2,599.”
Speaking of not being paid enough.
While awake at three o’clock this morning, I read on Reddit about several part-time jobs available in the Charlotte North Carolina area. The job seemed fairly easy. Your responsibility included restocking publications in grocery stores. The free crap at the front of the store. Someone asked how much the job paid. The answer was $16 per hour plus mileage. The person that asked went berserk. He thought the job should pay at least $20 per hour. It is a freaking part-time job. Very few brain cells are required. Can you lift ten pounds? Do you have a clean driving record? Great - start tomorrow.
Today is D-Day. Can you imagine what our lives would be like today if the sacrifices of World War II were not made 82 years ago? Could we spend $2,599 on a robotic vacuum? Maybe we would be smarter than to spend money to have a robot cleaning our floors.
You can’t think about D-Day without remembering the great leader, President Dwight Eisenhower. He was a true gentleman and statesman. One of my favorite Eisenhower quotes is, “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its stupidity." What do you think President Eisenhower would post on social media today?
Linda and I made plans to go to lunch a few days ago (a very rare event for us). We had to cancel our plans because I was not feeling well. I need to have my brain thermostat replaced. I get chills frequently. Apparently, my hypothalamus, which regulates body temperature is malfunctioning.
Today, we wanted to go to the local farmer’s market. We discovered that the town bus doesn’t pick up at the stop near our apartment on Saturday’s. We decided the correct bus stop was too far away with Linda in a wheelchair. Maybe next week, we can have an outing.
Those of you who know me well, know I am not much of a sports fan. Guess what? I am becoming a bit of a hockey fan. I lack proper knowledge of the rules of the game. At least I understand that the goal of the game is to slide the round puck into the netted tents. You have to get the puck past the big guy sitting in front the tent though. How am I doing?

Go Canes! It has been twenty years since the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup. With me cheering for the Canes, surely, we will bring the cup back to Raleigh next week.
Speaking of next week. My mother would celebrate her 98th birthday on June 10. She died in 2012. I sure miss her. Also, our home in South Carolina should close next week. It is about damn time.
I guess that is enough random thoughts from my Alzheimer’s brain. It is time for my afternoon nap. I need to rest before the hockey game tonight. The one cool thing about Alzheimer’s is taking frequent naps.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Thank you for your continued support. It is great to have you beside me on my Alzheimer’s journey.
