My Alzheimer's Journey
Part 82 - Friday February 6, 2026
It is a Frigid Friday here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina USA.
Except for a late afternoon venture to a book store, Linda and I are staying home and doing nothing. I think I am going to be a cat this weekend. Lots of long naps.
As is our tradition, Friday posts are the opposite of serious. It is time to lighten up and prepare for the weekend.
But first, we always look back to see what happened on this day in history.
On February 6, 1935, Parker Brothers began selling the board game Monopoly for the first time, quickly becoming a hit during the Great Depression. The game was actually created in 1903 by Elizabeth Magie to illustrate the dangers of monopoly. Over 200 million copies have been sold.
Babe Ruth was born on February 6, 1895. A bit of trivia for you - the Babe Ruth candy bar was launched in the 1920s, coinciding with Babe Ruth's peak popularity. Yet, the candy bar was actually named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter, Ruth.

In more recent times, Jay Leno hosts "The Tonight Show" for the final time on February 6, 2014.
Need something to do this weekend?
The Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony is tonight. Actually, the ceremony is at 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, or 8:00 pm in Italy. For those in the United States, you can watch the ceremonies starting at 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
If you want to do more than I do this weekend, I suggest you head to Tucson, Arizona for Gem & Jam. This is an annual festival featuring music, art, food, and massage therapists. The temperature during the day will be in the mid-70s. You can camp on the festival grounds. Sounds like one hell of a good time.
If you are in the United Kingdom, tomorrow would be nice day to visit Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Miserable weather outside, so enjoy this former home of Sir Winston Churchill.
Last, but certainly not least, you could go to the Coconut Club is Austin, Texas for the Drag Brunch tomorrow. The doors open at one and the shows starts at two. Who gives a damn about the weather, it will be plenty hot inside the club.
Oh wait, isn’t there a football game on Sunday?
I think I have provided a lot of information to ensure no one is bored this weekend. Whatever you opt to do (even if it is being a cat like me), do it with gusto!

I’d gladly go anywhere as it’s now 2 solid weeks and 1 day that I haven’t been able to set foot outside except on the porch as it’s still icy in many important places. The lake rd has never been plowed so I think our propane delivery guy was discouraged so hoping we have enough propane to last until he decides to try again. Also await my cats prescription food via ups and those trucks are low so they probably got discouraged immediately. If u recall my cat is a twin to yours I’m not bored tho as I always have plenty of food to cook and bake with and lotsa streaming choices. Hardly any neighbors tho.
Miserable weather in the UK indeed! The BBC reported that some parts of the south-west and Wales have had 36 consecutive days of rain. Think it's starting to get to a lot of us!
