My Alzheimer's Journey
Part 78 - Snow Cat Friday
We are expecting a significant snow event starting tonight in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. DB is very excited. He wants us to build a snowman tomorrow. I suggested we build a snow cat instead. I found an instructional video on YouTube. Building a snow cat is contingent on me dragging myself outside in the freezing cold. Maybe I can talk Linda into helping DB. The cats and I will sip hot chocolate and watch from the comfort of our apartment.
On December 31, I wrote a post about the impact the Ukraine war is having for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. With negotiations to end the war dragging on, I have continued to learn as much as possible about the overall mental health of Ukrainians. It is a subject that interests me because I know how depression changed my life for the past thirty years. I can’t imagine the level of depression and PTSD that results from living through a war.
I have met someone who lives in Ukraine. We have started chatting about the lifestyle he and his wife have, the near constant fear, and their financial struggles. I plan to share his story with you early next week.
As is our Friday tradition, let’s have a quick history lesson.
On this day is 1920, the Mazda car company was founded. Eleven years later, the first car rolled out of the manufacturing plant.
Elvis Pressley recorded Blue Suede Shoes on this day in 1956.
Archduke Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria, wrote a tragic note to his wife in the early hours of this day in 1889. It read: “I am going calmly to my death which alone can save my good name.” He then put a pistol to the head of his beautiful 17-year-old mistress who was lying in bed beside him and shot her dead. He did the same to himself shortly after. The Crown Prince was 29-years-old.
Finally, Larry King began his radio show on January 30, 1978. The Larry King Show was broadcast from Miami.
It would not be a complete Friday unless I share a few events you could attend this weekend.
Head to Melbourne, Florida for the Space Coast Food & Wine Festival tomorrow. It will be cold and cloudy. I understand drinking wine will warm the body, though.
If you want to stay indoors and party, head to Melbourne, Australia . The place is Yah Yah’s. They promise to keep the tunes going until 5 am Sunday. Oh yea, “dress like the main character – 'cause you are!”
If you want to go somewhere freezing to enjoy a fantastic hot meal, I suggest Hemingway’s Tavern in Melbourne, Arkansas. The Snapper Hemingway is damn good. The high temperature tomorrow will be 21 degrees Fahrenheit.
Enjoy your weekend. Don’t forget to take care of your gums!
