Let’s start this edition of Sunday Sentiments off with a bit of political news that has me scratching my head.
The 45-year-old Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Iowa is being sued by his parents for $275,000 in unpaid rent. Duane and Jackie Wulf, 83 and 82 years old, respectively, claim their son, Derek Wulf, stopped paying rent on 83 acres of farmland two years ago. Apparently, the candidate’s business, Shallow Creek Land & Livestock, has faced several lawsuits over unpaid debt since 2023. What did Derek do to piss tick his parents off so much that they sue while he is running for lieutenant governor?
Anyone want a cat? Pretty Boy has been waiting to be adopted at Whiskers N Wishes Sanctuary in Tucson for 263 days. He is described as friendly and gorgeous. Pretty Boy needs to be a barn cat due to a bad habit of nipping. Look at his cute face! Who has a barn in need of a cat?
Linda and I finally voted yesterday. When a first-time voter checked in at the polling place, the staff would yell out. There was consistent yelling while we were there. We noticed several new voters beaming with pride as they left. I think the poll workers should have been giving new voters (and voters with Alzheimer’s) a Krispy Kreme patriotic donut.
At a recent rally, President Trump talked about the cognitive test he “aced.” As a person with Alzheimer’s, I would certainly fail the test he describes. Aren’t you happy I do not aspire to be the President of the United States?
The United Kingdom has launched a clinical trial testing multiple drugs simultaneously to learn their effectiveness to treat Alzheimer’s symptoms. The AD-SMART trial is starting with two repurposed medicines already used to treat type 2 diabetes and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Researchers predict the AD-SMART trial methodology will cut the usual clinical trial time in half. Multiple treatments can be tested within the same study. This flexible approach enables promising new treatments to be added over time and treatments that are not showing benefit to be stopped, helping researchers identify effective therapies more efficiently.
I reported on the AD-SMART trial last week.
My last sentiment for today is that I feel icky. I woke up Saturday morning with a headache. The headache departed late Saturday afternoon. Today, I am tired, a bit depressed, and unable to do much except take cat naps. I hope to take a walk later today. Alzheimer’s really does suck.
